If you like to spend your time running around and playing fun sports, then this is the podcast for you! On this episode we sat down with Erik Whitcombe to talk about intramural and club sports. Whitcombe is the Director of Intramurals and the Club Sports Liaison.
For intramurals Whitcombe’s responsibility is “to provide comprehensive rec programs here at the University.” This ranges from developing activities and leagues, to tournaments, to day events. He is there to help the students with whatever they need in regards to their activities.
Prior to working here at the University, Whitcombe interned at Cheel Arena and worked at another university in their rec department. He was able to get a first-hand look at the process and bring it here to Clarkson.
When asked about the difference between intramural sports and club sports, Whitcombe responded, “Intramurals are run by me but it is all students who are competing against each other that go to school here, or faculty/staff…. it’s more diverse.” He tries to offer as many sports as he can, including wallyball and soccer. He goes on to say, “Club sports is all student-run.” They have a full Executive Board (e-board), and they schedule their games and practices. The club sports include flag football, hockey, rugby, baseball, and crew.
Anyone is welcome to join these teams. All they have to be is a member of the University. Whether you are a student, faculty, or staff, anyone is welcome to participate. To join a club sport all you have to do is login to KnightLife, search for the group and contact them for more information.
For intramural sports you need to login to imleagues.com/registration/clarkson and from there you can either join or create a team.
If you have any question on intramural sports or club sports please contact Erik Whitcombe at ewhitcom@clarkson.edu for more information.
