My name is Molly Trauman, and I am a student at The Clarkson School at Clarkson University who plans to transfer to another University. When deciding whether to attend TCS, I had a lot of factors to consider, one of which was the resources at The Clarkson School available to me as I applied to college. In high school, many guidance counselors have dozens of kids to focus on, most of which are applying to college simultaneously. This took away from my counselor’s availability to meet and focus on my process.

Support for the College Application Process
At The Clarkson School, students have access to Brenda, who acts as the counselor for every student in the program. Because the program is a smaller pool of kids and not all of them are applying elsewhere, Brenda can put time and effort into meeting with each student to help them in the process and write comprehensive letters of recommendation. She truly has the students’ best interests at heart, reminding them during meetings and the First Year Seminar class about upcoming deadlines and missing documents.
As the application deadlines approach, I am confident that being at The Clarkson School has helped me to submit applications that I’m proud of and that showcase my accomplishments. The smaller setting and dedicated advisors have been valuable resources offered at The Clarkson School that every prospective TCS student should consider when applying and making a decision, whether they plan to stay at Clarkson after the program or apply elsewhere.

Why Resources at TCS Make a Difference
For those choosing to stay at Clarkson, Brenda ensures that their schedules line up with the courses needed for their intended majors. This academic advising is another example of the supportive resources at The Clarkson School, allowing for a seamless transition into sophomore year. Having a dedicated TCS advisor removes that stress from the students as they make the transition from high school to college, which will help them better adjust in their remaining college years. Overall, the resources offered by The Clarkson School are essential to a successful year and aid students in their transition in a comfortable, reassuring way.
