Introduction

Hello everyone,

My name is Bayley Rochefort, and I’m from Massena, New York. I’m currently a junior at Clarkson University, majoring in Global Supply Chain Management. Growing up in Northern New York, Clarkson was always on my radar, especially since my mom is a proud Clarkson alum. Being so close to campus, I had the chance to visit often and see the university’s unique atmosphere firsthand. Still, like many students, my path to Clarkson wasn’t a straight line.

Before college, my focus was actually on playing soccer at the next level. Sports had always been a huge part of my life. I played both soccer and hockey throughout high school and was actively pursuing the college recruiting process. Unfortunately, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it paused everything. The recruiting trail went cold, and like many high school students at the time, I had to regroup and reconsider my next steps. It wasn’t until late in my junior year of high school that I picked the process back up and started seriously considering where I wanted to go for college.

In the end, I applied to four schools, Clarkson being one of them. Thanks to my familiarity with the campus, the strong academic reputation, and my family connection, Clarkson felt like a natural fit. Looking back now, I can confidently say it was the right choice. Since coming here, I’ve grown both personally and professionally. I’ve gained meaningful experiences in the classroom, made strong connections, and taken advantage of opportunities I wouldn’t have found anywhere else.

Finding My Place on Campus

When I first moved in as a freshman, I wasn’t entirely sure if I wanted to get involved in campus life. I figured I’d focus on adjusting to college and maybe take a break from all the activities I had been involved in during high school. But that mindset didn’t last long. After settling in, I realized how active and welcoming the Clarkson community really is.

With 200+ clubs and student organizations on campus, there’s truly something for everyone. Whether you’re into sports, media, leadership, service, or something totally niche, there’s a place to belong.

I decided to get involved, and I’m really glad I did.

I joined Sigma Chi, one of Clarkson’s fraternities, where I’ve built lasting friendships and learned a lot about leadership and community engagement. Also, I became a member of Clarkson Club Television (CCTV), which has allowed me to explore creativity and communication in a fun, media-driven environment. Next, I joined Order of Omega, a national honor society recognizing fraternity and sorority leaders who demonstrate strong academic and leadership skills.

These organizations have helped me step outside my comfort zone, develop valuable skills, and make a real impact on campus.

What Makes Clarkson Stand Out

One of the biggest things I’ve realized through all of this is how strong the student life and campus culture is at Clarkson. People here are constantly collaborating, organizing events, and encouraging each other to get involved. The environment is both energetic and supportive. It motivates you to try new things, meet new people, and grow in ways you didn’t expect.

These extracurriculars have also played a role beyond campus. During interviews for internships and job opportunities, employers consistently ask about what I’m involved in outside the classroom. They want to see that I’m a well-rounded candidate with teamwork, leadership, and time management skills. Thanks to my involvement at Clarkson, I’ve been able to share real stories and experiences that stand out to recruiters.

Balance and Support

What’s even better is that Clarkson makes it possible to strike a solid balance between academics and involvement. The schedule is manageable, professors are supportive, and there’s plenty of time to study, participate in clubs, and enjoy your social life. It’s this balance that has made my time at Clarkson so fulfilling.

Looking ahead, I’m excited for what’s next. Whether it’s more leadership roles, professional development, or just making more memories with my friends and organizations, I know that Clarkson continues to provide the resources and support I need to succeed.
