What does it take to turn an idea into a business, or a class project into real-world experience? Just ask Carter Rose, a Business Administration major from Brasher Falls, NY. At Clarkson University’s David D. Reh School of Business, Carter has found the perfect mix of innovation, mentorship, and professional growth.
Whether you’re dreaming of launching your own startup or leading a team at a top company, Clarkson’s Business Administration program gives you the tools to succeed—starting on day one.
Real-World Entrepreneurship in Your First Year
At Clarkson, you won’t just learn about entrepreneurship—you’ll live it. All first-year Business Administration majors take SB113: Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation, where they create, develop, and pitch a real business idea.
“Our group developed an NIL-inspired app using my hockey team as a model,” Carter said. “We pitched to real investors. The experience felt authentic and high stakes.”
Professor Marc Compeau, a seasoned entrepreneur himself, brings years of real-world experience to the classroom. His mentorship helped Carter and his team understand what it really takes to bring a startup to life.

Work with Real Clients, Not Case Studies
Clarkson’s hands-on approach doesn’t stop in year one. Business students regularly work with real businesses to solve real challenges.
“Right now, I’m part of a student team helping a local photographer grow her brand online,” Carter shared. “We’re conducting research, building a marketing plan, and seeing the results firsthand.”
Courses like Marketing Research and Consulting for Emerging Enterprises turn classrooms into boardrooms—giving students the confidence and experience to stand out in their careers.
A Balanced Life: Hockey and Business
Outside of class, Carter is a student-athlete on Clarkson’s Division I Men’s Hockey Team, an experience that has taught him discipline, time management, and teamwork.
“Being part of the hockey team has pushed me to grow not just on the ice, but in the classroom too. The lessons I’ve learned through sports directly translate to the business world.”
At Clarkson, students are encouraged to pursue their passions both academically and personally. For Carter, hockey complements his education and keeps him energized and focused.

Professors Who Know Your Name (and Your Game Stats)
Small class sizes and a tight-knit community mean that Clarkson faculty truly get to know their students.
“The professors at Clarkson don’t just teach. They care. They ask about our hockey games, our goals, and how we’re doing outside the classroom. That kind of support makes all the difference.”
Clarkson’s business faculty bring deep industry experience—from marketing and entrepreneurship to operations and strategy—offering personal guidance and meaningful mentorship. Read this blog post of another student’s experience with the Business Intelligence & Data Analytics Program.
